Latest information on Microsoft Robotics Studio 1.5 (CTP April 2007) RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Here we keep track of the latest issues regarding Microsoft Robotics Studio 1.5 (CTP April 2007). If you come across things that are not listed here then let us know by sending comments, bugs, and suggestions to the appropriate MSDN Microsoft Robotics Studio forum.

    Installation

Microsoft Robotics Studio 1.5 (CTP April 2007) can be installed side-by-side with Microsoft Robotics Studio (1.0) without interfering with each other. While you can change the default installation folder, we recommend that you install Microsoft Robotics Studio 1.5 (CTP April 2007) in a different folder than that of Microsoft Robotics Studio (1.0). Otherwise, certain cache files that the runtime uses may cause confusion.

The Microsoft Robotics Studio Help installation cannot be installed side-by-side with previous version of the Help installation and so you must either manually uninstall the Help installation for Microsoft Robotics Studio (1.0) or let Microsoft Robotics Studio 1.5 (CTP April 2007) uninstall it for you.

Note: Please do not be concerned about the scary "Uninstalling Help" pop-up message in the beginning. It only uninstalls the 1.0 Help, not the full 1.0 studio.

Note: The Help file is missing some simulation namespaces. We are aware of this and will add them for the next CTP.

Packages are a new part of Microsoft Robotics Studio and enable the distribution of independent services. Packages are generated by the DssDeploy tool and can be targeted an existing Microsoft Robotics Studio installation. With the release of Microsoft Robotics Studio 1.5 (CTP April 2007) we include two such packages which are available as separate downloads:

    ·         Sumo Competition for Microsoft Robotics Studio 1.5 (CTP April 2007)

    ·         Soccer Simulation for Microsoft Robotics Studio 1.5 (CTP April 2007)

You install the packages by first installing Microsoft Robotics Studio 1.5 (CTP April 2007) and then install each of them individually. See below for comments on these packages.

Note: We recommend that you install the ".zip" version of the packages. If you install the ".exe" version of the packages then you MUST first download it and then run it from local disk.

    Code Migration

Service code projects written for Microsoft Robotics Studio (1.0) can be migrated to Microsoft Robotics Studio 1.5 (CTP April 2007) using the DssProjectMigration tool. Once you convert your service projects they can no longer be compiled with the previous version. The safest way to convert is therefore to copy the project directories you want to migrate to somewhere under the Microsoft Robotics Studio 1.5 (CTP April 2007) installation folder.

Once you have copied the projects you can convert them as follows from a Microsoft Robotics Studio 1.5 (CTP April 2007) Command Prompt:

    DssProjectMigration <serviceproject1> <serviceproject2> ...

If your projects are located on another drive or a folder outside the Microsoft Robotics Studio 1.5 (CTP April 2007) installation folder then simply specify the folder where your projects can be found, for example:

    DssProjectMigration "d:\dev\GpsTest" "d:\dev\MyRobotTest"

Microsoft Visual Programming Language (VPL) Diagram Migration

VPL 1.0 diagrams can be used directly from VPL 1.5 (CTP April 2007) without any migration. However, once they have been loaded and saved by VPL 1.5 (CTP April 2007), they can no longer be loaded by VPL 1.0. Again, the safest path here is to copy the VPL 1.0 diagram before opening it in VPL 1.5 (CTP April 2007).

    Sumo Package

The ReadMe instructions for the Sumo package can be misleading since we no longer ship samples.sln. You can run the Sumo player out of the box without compiling but if you compile you MUST ONLY compile the SumoPlayer.csproj project. Do NOT attempt to compile the SumoCompetition.sln solution. This is actually what the readme recommends, but since there is an issue with the sumoCompetition.SLN, dont use it. It will make make the SimulatedIRobotLite service not load anymore.

  • This version doesn't contain full help. Help for the namespaces like Microsoft.Robotics.Simulation is missing (I couldn't find any documentation for Simulation while that was present in 1.0 documentation).

  • Thanx for the report , we will look into it and fix for the next CTP

  • It would be nice if a patch could be provided for now as the next CTP would roll out next month.

  • Yes, indeed some of the simulation namespaces fell off. We will fix this for the next CTP.
