Windows Phone 8 equivalent of Microsoft.Web.Media.SmoothStreaming.SmoothStreamingMediaElement RRS feed

  • Question

  • I assume Microsoft.Web.Media.SmoothStreaming.SmoothStreamingMediaElement is available only for Silverlight based apps (e.g. WP7 apps)?  Could anyone confirm this?

If so, what is supposed to be used to play smooth streaming video on Windows Phone 8?

  • Hi, it is the same. You can take your WP7 Silverlight app and use the upgrade mechanism in VS to upgrade it to WP8 (where it is often referred to as a XAML app).

  • Thank you, Mark, for clarifying this.

The phone icon in the API reference that identifies members of classes in the Microsoft.Web.Media.SmoothStreaming namespace that are available for Windows Phone development is the number "7".  That is why I thought they were for Windows Phone 7 only.
