    Hi all,

I have a sample Web Application Project and using Web Deployment Project i'm generating the precompiled version of that.

Now i want to create a WebSetup project in my solution using the Output generated by the WebDeployment project.

Please let me know how to achieve this.

    Thanks

    Hi Sarthak,

Here's an MSDN article on how to do it in VS2008: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms227401.aspx

That's tutorial from Scott Guthrie for VS2005, but the idea should be same for VS2008: http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2005/11/06/429723.aspx

    Hi sarthaks,

To do that you'll need to right-click on the WebSetup project and select "Add > Project Output" from the popup menu.

This action should present you with a popup window. At the top, there will be dropdown list with your projects, make sure that

your WebSiteDeployment project is selected from that list, also select "Primary output" option as well. Rebuild you solution.

That should create msi file for you web application.

    Hi egor598,

I have gone through the tutorial from Scott Gutherie ('http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2005/11/06/429723.aspx'), but after creating the WebSiteDeployment project, in the Step 6:Optional Setup Project he has mentioned that we can easily configure the WebSetup project to pipe in the output from WebSiteDeployment project into the MSI.

How will i do that. There was not much info given in the MSDN link that you have provided.

    Please advice.

    Thanks

    Hi Egor598,

I have one last doubt.I have successfully created the websetup project in VS2008, using WebDeployment Project, however when i tried to do the same thing in VS2005, it is not working for me i.e, i have installed the web deployment plugin for VS2005, but Unable to see "Add Web Deployment project" in VS 2005 build menu.

This option comes only in Web Site Projects only not in Web Application Projects.

Am i missing some thing?? Please advice.

    Thanks in advance

    Sarthak
