Windows 7 + entity = no longer connecting RRS feed

  • Question

  • got a new laptop for work. It has windows 7 pro.

    I installed VS2010 + sp1 and VS2012 along with SQL express 2008 and 2012

Problem I am running into is that my ASP.NET 4.0 projects that use entity can no longer connect to the database. I can't even use the wizard and the wizard doesn't even seem to see that I have a connection string in the app.config

the odd thing is, one of the projects I can still run in debug mode and it works just fine the other one doesn't. I get the underlying provider failed to open message.

Worked just find on old XP laptop with VS2010

I have no idea what is causing this.  I can connect to the database through SQL2008 management studio.

i am also NOT trying to connect to a SQL server on my local machine.

    Other error i get is

"a connection was successfully established with the server but then an error occured during the pre-login handshake"

    • Moved by Glenn CondronMicrosoft employee Thursday, October 18, 2012 8:44 PM This looks like it's related to SQL Client (From:ADO.NET Entity Framework and LINQ to Entities)

  • i noticed just now if I use Data Source as Microsoft SQL Server (sqlclient) i get the handshake error

if I use Microsoft SQL Server (OLE DB) then I can connect just fine.

my projects are using System.data.SqlClient not SQLOLEDB

  • Hi Zenuke,

    Welcome to MSDN Forum.

Based on this issue, I think this is related to your VS or SQL Server, not a Entity Framework issue.

After researching, I found a similar case, please try the solution it provides: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3270199/a-connection-was-successfully-established-with-the-server-but-then-an-error-occ. I hope it could help.
