Bing Location API returning wrong lat long RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

When searching for postcode BT74 6JG, which isn't a valid postcode, the bing maps webpage returns the location in Northern Ireland for BT74, however the API returns lat long 53.9438323974609, -2.55055809020996 which is in England.

Can anyone tell me why it returns a location in England and is the API not able to fallback to the partial postcode like the web page?

  • BT74 is a postal code area in the UK, thus the API is returning a valid result. The Bing Maps consumer site mixes a lot of additional data sources which provide more data, but also reduces the accuracy of address based geocodes compared to the APIs.

  • I don't get that coordinate when I geocode "BT74 6JG" I get (54.3404350280762, -7.70750284194946). The coordinate that is returned is in the middle of the BT74 postal area.

  • Is that lat long from the API just a fallback for the UK then? It's 200miles off from the actual BT74 postal code area.
