WDK Test Target Setup x64 fails when run on Windows 7 computer RRS feed

  • Question

  • Installed Visual Studio Preview 2013 on a Windows 8 machine.

Used "WDK Test Target Setup x64-x64_en-us.msi" from installation and ran it on a Windows 7 machine that I am attempting to provision.  The installation fails.  Below is a snippet from the log information from the install:

  • This is a bug in the installer when running under Windows 7. The command "sc config lanmanserver start=Auto" needs an additional space after "start=" in order to work in Windows 7, but it works on Win8 and Win8.1. Unfortunately, there are no easy workarounds for this. In the meantime, I would suggest using Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 Preview as your target machine.

This will be fixed in the RTM release. Thanks for letting us know about the issue!

  • The obvious but silly question is, does this machine have a working net card?  The install failed trying to configure lanmanserver.

  • When can we expect this RTM release?

  • Another question: can't we just take the 'sc' command from Windows 8 and copy it to our Windows 7 platform in order to get this installer to work?

  • Yes, in the meantime, I think using the Windows 8 "sc" executable should work. I haven't tried doing that myself though, so I can't guarantee it works.
