Move storage VHD from West to North location? RRS feed

  • Hello,

    Is possible delete VM and use VHD from this deleted machine to create new machine in another region?

    An is possbile use VM from west and attach it to North Resource Group and vice versa?

  • Yes it is also possible to use ASR to replicate VMs from one region to another as mentioned in this tutorial let us know if you have any other questions.

  • 1. Yes, it is possible. You have to copy an existing VHD from one location to another location by using the AzCopy tool/ Azure PowerShell/ Storage Explorer and then create a VM by using that VHD.

    2. If my understanding is correct on your query. It is not possible to attach a data disk in East region to a VM in the North region.

    you can certainly reuse a VHD to create a new VM. For the process of copying the vhd file, refer to the information provided by Vikranth. For the remaining part of the process, refer to https://stackoverflow.com/questions/45307612/create-an-azure-vm-with-an-unmanaged-disk

    As far as your second question goes, the VM resource can be part of any resource group, regardless of its location
