WHQL a driver that I do not own ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Experts:

I'm using a driver (available online for free download, its an libusb filter driver) that does not belong to me (I do not own it), can I still run it through HCK and get it WHQL certified so that there is no Windows warning popups during installing this driver ? Is it legal?

    Thanks in advance.

  • The last I checked you needed the source since there was a requirement to run PreFast.  If you have the source then it is equivalent to taking an example driver and doing a slight modification and submitting it which is definitely legal to do.
