Embed Silverlight on web page RRS feed

  • Question

  • I created a short video with Windows Movie Maker - "short-video.wmv"

    I opened a Silverlight project in Encoder 4 SP1

    Imported the .wmv file, chose a template, then encoded the file.

    QUESTION: Is ther a step-by-step tutorial that explains, beginning-to-end, how to embed the encoded video into a web page?

    Where do you find the encoded video on your local pc?  How do you up-load the encoded video to your Internet presence provider's server?  Then once on the IPP's seerver, how do you embed the Silverlight video clip into a web page?

    (My web IPP, Arvixe, supports Silverlight.)

    Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thnaks.

  • Hello Mark,

    There are a couple of articles in the Encoder User Guide about this but it isn't step by step. The two I am referring to are "Understanding a Silverlight Project" and "Publish your media".

    For your questions, Encoder always stores your output by default in under 'My Documents' Expression - Expression Encoder. From there it depends of if the output was a live job, transcoding, or screen capture. From encoder you can access it easiest by going to the output panel. From there click the little cog button under Job Output. There is an option there to 'Open job location'.

    Encoder does provide a publishing tool under publish called WebDAV. That being said most web hosts have tools for copying content from your machine up to their servers.

    When you encode with a template, Encoder does all the coding for you and creates an html page. It is all in the same job folder and if you move it together will still work. You can use the html page provided or if you want to embed your player you can have your html page point to the xap file for the player.

    Regards

    -Matt

    =====================================
    I have my html page point to the .xap file located in the Expression Encoder "output folder" in drive: c on my local pc.

    In the page <body> it looks like this:

     <div id="videoBox">
    <object width="100%" height="100%"
                type="application/x-silverlight-2"
                data="data:application/x-silverlight-2," >
                <param name="source" value="index-video/MediaPlayerTemplate.xap"/>
                <param name="onerror" value="onSilverlightError" />
                <param name="background" value="white" />
                <param name="minRuntimeVersion" value="4.0.60310.0" />
                <param name="autoUpgrade" value="true" />
                <a href="http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=149156&v=4.0.60310.0"
                    style="text-decoration: none;">
                    <img
                        src="http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=161376"
                        alt="Get Microsoft Silverlight"
                        style="border-style: none"/>
                </a>
            </object>
            <iframe id="_sl_historyFrame"
                style='visibility:hidden;height:0px;width:0px;border:0px'>
            </iframe>
     </div>

    Displaying this html page in IE, the silverlight player appears correctly, but there is no video.

    Any ideas?

  • The answer to my query: Embed Silverlight on web page, is found in the Help menu - User Guide for EW4.

    The Expresson Web User Guide has step-by-step instructions under the heading, "Add Silverlight video to a page".

  • really the easiest way is to select "import a silverlight video" from expression web 4 toolbox and encode directly to the page.  Imports all javascript and neccesary files... But im actually tring to figure out how to publish directly to a web page, instant embed from encoder 4?/  I had it set up like that before but had to reinstall and now cant remember how to do it... Any ideas???
