  • You seem to have multiple MessageBox DB's configured. From the error it seems there is some issues with the server or SQL on the server pertaining to BizTalkMsgBoxDb_2. Check there.

    Regards.

  • This issue is due to database connectivity loss where BizTalk is just a victim.

    Event ID:      5410

Error description: Unable to communicate with MessageBox BizTalkMsgBoxDb_2 on SQL Instance XXXXX. Error Code: 0x8004d01c. Possible reasons include:

     1) The MessageBox is unavailable.
    2) The network link from this machine to the MessageBox is down.
    3) The DTC Configuration on either this local machine or the machine hosting this MessageBox is incorrect.

Please look into the below article which talks about a similar error message(Error message and event Id).

TCP settings that can impact BizTalk Server

Try to work on the suggestions first, if it doesn't help I would suggest to open a ticket with Microsoft Support SQL connectivity team. They should be able to help you.

Also, let us know if this is intermittent issue or a breakfix? Was there any recent change? like installing of security patches?

    Thanks,
    Prashant

  • Well Few Checkpoint for you:

    1) Was there any recent deployment done on the production server wherein BTSNTSvc.exe config files were edit or replaced?

Biztalk Host instance fails to start after config file change

    2) This problem may occur if the Disable new message publication check box is selected in the properties of all of the message boxes that are associated with the BizTalk Server Group that contains the Host instance.

You cannot start a host instance from the BizTalk Server BizTalk administration console

    3) Check the service account under which your Host are running and ensure they are not locked.

    4) Ensure that the ports connecting the application server and database are not blocked due to any patching activity.

BizTalk 2010 Host instances getting stopped Intermittently

    5) Was there any failover activity happened. Could be that when clustered services are brought online, they must be started in a specific order, with the DTC service being started before SQL Server. If they are not brought online in this order, SQL Server fails to register itself and DTC transactions cannot be initiated, even though both the DTC and SQL service’s are running and everything looks correct.

  • Ensure that MSDTC is operating ok. We also had problems and it turns out that MSDTC was acting up.
