NDIS 5.x compatibility with Windows 10? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have an NDIS 5.x Passthru driver that, thanks to backward compatibility, has worked fine in Windows versions from XP to 8.1. I'm installing the identical file on Windows 10, and the driver installs but does not function. (Edited to add: The driver loads, but "netcfg /b" shows that it did not bind to any adapters.) The sys file is the same, installed the same way and with the same signature that works in Win8.1. I don't think it's a code signing issue, because the driver does install without an error message and netcfg shows that it is loaded after the reboot.

I can't find any official source that NDIS 5.x compatibility has been removed from or modified in Windows 10, but a Google search does find several people with the same problem who are speculating that is the case. What could have changed in Win10 that would cause this change in behavior?
