  • In FAST search you can add new refiners based on managed properties:

    1) Make sure that "Use as refiner" is enabled for the managed property you would like to use as a refiner. Also make sure that the managed property is correctly mapped so that your new refiner will become populated with data. You find the list of Managed Properties under FAST Search Administration in Central Administration.

    2) Edit the Refinement Web part to add the refiner. Go to the search page and choose Site Actions - Edit Page, and then Edit Web Part.

    3) Now you need to edit the Filter Category Definition XML under Refinement configuration (easier if you copy it to Visual Studio). Add the new refiner in the desired order in the XML.

    4) Also remember to change the number of categories to display in the Refinement configuration.

    5) If the "Use Default Configuration" checkbox is checked (at the bottom of the Refinement configuration group), you must uncheck this before you save for your changes to take effect.

For more detailed information about specifying refinement, see the guide "Query Integration - Microsoft FAST Search Server 2010 for SharePoint"
