Blend: Catastrophic failure (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8000FFFF (E_UNEXPECTED))

Question

Hi there,

First time here :)

I searched through other related Catastrophic failure posts but non identical to mine.

I am currently using blend v5. as well as VS 2012, on opening either of them and creating a new project I get the following:

In blend & VS2012:

Exception: There was an error building the project. Please rebuild the project.

StackTrace: Empty

   Exception: Catastrophic failure (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8000FFFF (E_UNEXPECTED))

       at MS.Internal.XcpImports.CheckHResult(UInt32 hr)
       at MS.Internal.XcpImports.UIElement_Measure(UIElement element, Size availableSize)
       at System.Windows.UIElement.Measure(Size availableSize)

       InnerException: None

Yes I did rebuild, it even says successful.

I can run the actual emulator so nothing wrong there.

Any ideas how to fix? Thanks

Repair and/or uninstall/reinstall. Unfortunately, iIn a forum that's about as far as we can really help with issues like these.

Did that, on repairing it says finished with errors Windows log file full.No effect change in Blend.

UPDATE: I have now tried uninstalling, reinstalling, no effect. THen restore to previous check point before everything, then reinstalled it, nothing either!!!

Anyone else had the same issue?

Further information as a help to others is that I was running on Windows 8 and that the windows apk version on which I was building was 7.1, when I changed this to 8.1 it worked!

Don't know what is the issue with 7.1 but it doesn't want to display the preview.
