change vm location RRS feed

  • Hello Yaron,

If you want to move your VM to other location,  you would need to move the VHD from East US to West US first using the Azure command-line tool for Mac and Linux, which you can get from the link at the end of this post. The command you will use as below:

    • azure image create <name> [source-path]

(This command copies the VHD to the current storage account and registers it with the personal image repository)

    • azure vm disk upload <source-path> <blob-url> <storage-account-key>

(This command only copies the VHD to the destination blob url. This way the VHD will copy from one DC location to other DC location without using any interaction to local machine so it is best option)

Note: Above, source-path is publicly accessible storage account URL.

After VHD is copied to other location, you can create VM from that VHD and then remove the VM from previous location.
