Developer tools for 32-bit

    Question

  • Is developer tools (e.g. vs2011, blend5) available for Windows Developer Preview English, 32-bit (x86)? They come with Windows Developer Preview with developer tools English, 64-bit (x64), but not for 32-bit. Can I install them separately on 32-bit? I can't find download links to them.

  • Hi Alex,

Currently, the developer tools are available only on the "Windows Developer Preview with developer tools English, 64-bit (x64)" image.  They are not available separately at this time.

If you go to http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/default.aspx, you will see a new subscriber download named "Windows Developer Preview SDK/WDK (x86 and x64) - (English)", but this is just the SDK and WDK; it doesn't contain the previews of Visual Studio Express or Blend that are part of the developer tools image.  So, while these will install on the "Windows Developer Preview English, 32-bit (x86)" image they are not the same thing as the developers tools image.

    Sincerely,

    Dan

  • The Windows Developer Preview SDK/WDK (x86 and x64) - (English) product that was posted on the MSDN Subscribers Download site has been removed. In order to develop applications using the Windows 8 SDK, please review the following post: “Which Windows 8 images and Visual Studio tools support Windows Metro style development and which support desktop development?
