Associate Deployment Name with REST API requests to create resources. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Presently in AZURE when deploying a ARM template, a deployment name can be associated with the deployment.

Ex. az group deployment create -g MyResourceGroup --name myDeploymentName--template-uri https://myresource/azuredeploy.json --parameters @myparameters.json

Here, myDeploymentName is the deployment name associated with the template deployment.

I want to achieve similar behaviour with the AZURE REST API.
Ex. I am creating a File Share Storage using AZURE REST API and I want to associate a deployment name with this REST API request. I could not find any documentation that mentioned that this is possible.
Is there a way though which this can be achieved?

PS -  I am using REST specifically because there is no ARM template support from AZURE available for the resource I want to create(file share storage).

  • Currently creating file shares in Azure using ARM templates is not supported:

"You can create Azure File shares using Azure portal, the Azure Storage PowerShell cmdlets, the Azure Storage client libraries, or the Azure Storage REST API"

    Documentation:
    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/files/storage-how-to-create-file-share
There is a workaround on this external blog which may help you on creating an ARM template for file shares.

When it comes to having a deployment name using the REST API, it is not supported unfortunately. This documentation lists all the supported parameters for the REST: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/rest/api/storageservices/create-share
