Can "Use my local drafts folder" option be entirely disabled?

Question

Is there a a way to disable the "Use my local drafts folder" option (upon check-out) entirely?

We have a SharePoint 2007 library with some users running Office 2007 and some running Office 2003.  Check-out is required for editing.  I would prefer users not even be presented with that option regardless of which Office product(s) they have loaded.

Possible?  If so, how?!?!?!

go to the document library settings and then version settings. turn off require documents to be checked out before editing. this may allow them to check out using office 2007 if they want.

users with 2003 will not get that prompt as they have to use the web browser to check documents in and out

I can't do that.  I need to have check out be required.  So back to the original question...is there a way to disable that option?

drop down the menu on the document and click on edit with office application. see if that brings it up still.

Yes, the box is still offered on that dialog box as well. 

The key is that I need for this to be as user-proof as possible.  The best way to do that is to disable that option.  The second best would be for the box to NOT be checked by default.

Hi,

 

I think there is no option to change the default behavior of save local drafts folder, it’s by design.

 

But you can set the "Use my local drafts folder" option to be unchecked by default in the dialog: Open Office Word>Click on the office button, Word options>Click on Save >Configure to "The server drafts location on this computer" – try to change this to "The web server"

After this, the option will be unchecked by default when editing document.

How would I do this in Word 2003?  Most of our users are on that.
