Is there a notofication for edge gesture?

    Question

  • When displaying the app bars, is there any way to detect whether the user swiped top edge down or bottom edge up?

My top app bar contains a lot of navigation and is quite deep.  If the user is after the command bar at the bottom, I'd like to detect this and only show a portion of the top app bar.  It is quite distracting otherwise.

    Thanks

  • Not built in. The standard is for both top and bottom bars to show on the same gesture, so that is what the system implements. The EdgeGesture class reports only starting and completing, not where the gesture originated. Also consider keyboard (Win-Z) and mouse (right click) gestures which bring up the app bars without an edge to reference.

You could implement your own edge gestures based on low level Pointer messages, but I don't recommend it.

If the navy bar is too cumbersome then you may want to redesign it. Perhaps let it scroll or move less frequently used options to a fly out.
