Why does a Slider always have empty space above it? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm puzzled by Slider. Laying out a page that contains labels and sliders is proving frustrating.

I've narrowed down my problem to the fact that the Slider always has some padding above it, automatically present even though all padding and margins are set to zero.

This means that the slider appears to be vertically slightly lower than the TextBlock to its left.

I'd expect the TextBlock text and the Slider image to appear aligned horizontally when their individual vertical alignments are the same but alas no.

Now I can "fix" this by setting the TextBlocks vertical alignment to "Bottom" but is this correct? why does the Slider have this weird appearance?

See the image below, it clearly show space above the actual slider yet the XAML as you can see says nothing that can explain this, its inconsistent with what I expect and very frustrating.
