Report Grouping/Header RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

I want to have a 'group' header, without the group.  An example is easiest.

    Label Number

    A 1

    A 2

    A 3

    B 4

    B 5

    A 6

From that data, I'd like the report so show:

    A

    1

    2

    3

    B

    4

    5

    A

    6

So I'm keeping the order of my number, while repeating the label header.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

  • Hi Yellow,

Thanks for your post. We have a report control forum for this issue, I'll move this thread to that forum for better responses.

  • Thanks Shanks.

I have figured out a solution for this:

    • I added the 'Label' as a row to the table and set the value
    • On the textbox I set Hide Duplicates to true, based on the dataset of the report
    • I set the height of the textbox to 0
    • I set the CanGrow property of the textbox to True

And now because I'm not grouping by my label column, it all works.

    Cheers

Edit: Except of course when you print the report it decides to add random spacing and doesn't print what is displayed on screen.  Reporting shouldn't be this hard, my Atari ST had a WYSIWGY word processor in the 1980's and that didn't have these problems!

  • Does anyone know why when the report is printed and hits the second column, or page in a single column report, it then stops working as it should.

This image is how the report starts out, all good:

And then on column 2, it does this:

The row is no longer shrinking.

  • In the end I gave up and updated my stored procedure to have a 'Show Header' column and updated the report to read that to show/hide the data row.
