Exceeding the 500 connections limitation on a CDN blob connection RRS feed

  • Question

  • How can I make sure that I can scale the number of requests on downloads for CDN downloads if the number of connections exceeds 500 (or 1000, etc) ? From my understanding, each blob can only handle up to 500 downloads.

Is there a load balancing solution or ???

My use case is launching a new game and expecting large numbers.

  • Hi Danielsn,

I dont see any reference to 500 connection limit on a blob, please point me to the documentation on it,

i see that CDN will improve the download time for the content (eventually adding up to the fast performance), I can see that if you using blob client (i am assuming you are), here is a nice blog article written about increasing performance on the client side.

    http://tk.azurewebsites.net/2012/12/10/greatly-increase-the-performance-of-azure-storage-cloudblobclient/

As far as load balancing goes, you can increase role instance count to process more requests, also you can introduce table storage that can store reference to a blob, table storage have high availability and high performance in built (if you use it correctly by defining right partition and row keys), i can see that as an option if you can not achieve desired performance on blobs after making client side modifications (I am pretty confident that it will work out just fine without introducing tables)

    hope this helps

  • I am using the CDN without using webroles.  You dont have to have a webrole, or such, you can just use blob storage, and enable CDN.

  • You are saying there is no limit on number of concurrent connections on a CDN (not blob but CDN blob) file that is being downloaded?

(I have read too many pages recently to remember the specific page I saw this on.)  It would be nice to know this is not correct.

  • ok i see where the confusion is.. its the ddos and throttling prevension in built in azure that prevents more than a certain number of concurrent connections from "same origin", CDN blobs otherwise have no such limitation that i am aware of

Please follow this old forum post which is not directly related but talks about how to use CDN for high availability

i hope this is helpful, thanks again for sharing question on forums
