File Dialogs RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I am new to Small Basic and like most of what I see. But I am strugling with how to give the user a standard "Windows" dialog for opening a file. I see references to loading huge numbers of extensions, but I find it hard to believe it is not a standard feature in SB.  Having to load a lot of extensions would remove the power of SB for beginners, I very much like to simplicity apparent so far.

I like the intelisense - it does not have the "Dialogs" option....

I suspect I am missing something obvious - please give me a hint.

    many thanks,

    Tom

  • Small Basic doesn't have support for Dialogs so you must use Data Extension or FC extension. With Data Extension you do have Dialogs option in intelisense.

Here is easy sample for Data Extension:

    'Open file Dialog:

    TextWindow.WriteLine(Dialogs.AskForFile("All Files (*.*) |*.*"))

    'And Save File Dialog:

    TextWindow.WriteLine(Dialogs.AskForSaveLocation("All Files (*.*) |*.*", "True"))
