Installation Concerns RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

    I would like to know;

    1. Are any limitations if I install SQL 2012 SP1 Enterprise and SharePoint 2013 on the same server?
    2. Any limitations if i use an existing SQL server but its running SQL 2008 R2 SP2 then install SharePoint on its own server?

    Both the options you have mentioned does not have any limitations. Once thing you have to keep in mind while going with single server environment is that single server topology is not recommended in Production. Plus both SharePoint and SQL server require high resources to run i.e. CPU and Memory and hence it is better to keep them separate.

    Also in case of existing SQL Server (option # 2) if there are other applications running on this DB Server then if possible use dedicated SQL Instance for SharePoint installation. There might be some issues where SQL is sharing resources.

    In both the options make sure you read the hardware requirements for SP 2013.
