Dependency sub folder RRS feed

  • Question

  • How do I configure a VB project so that dependencies are stored in a sub folder?  I am building a Project with several dependencies that will run from a network folder and I want to keep the main folder clean to make it easier for the users.

  • Add an app.config to your executable project.  (Add New Item:  "Application Configuration File")

    Put a line such as the following in the config file:

    Code Snippet

    <probing privatePath="yoursubfoldername"/>

    The explanation of this from MSDN is:

    Specifies application base subdirectories for the common language runtime to search when loading assemblies.

    The documentation for this is here:  http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/823z9h8w.aspx

    Wow, cool, thanks.  That worked great.  I suppose that there is no way to automate this on a build other than using Build Events.
