VS 2017 shows VS 2015 in solution explorer.

    Question

  • In VS 2017 I opened a 2015 solution.  In solution explorer every project displays (Visual Studio 2015) next to it.

I do not need this clutter.  How do I disable it?

    Thank you.

  • Does it disappear as soon as you save or build your project inside 2017?

  • I can't say exactly when it first appeared.  I think when I first loaded the solution.

  • Hi,

    First see:

Port, Migrate, and Upgrade Visual Studio Projects

Those projects likely are using round-tripping between VS 2015 and VS 2017 (see round-tripping here).

To get rid of (Visual Studio 2015) you need to upgrade the project from VS 2015 (14.0) to VS 2017 (15.0), either using a menu entry to do it in the context menu of the project (if exists) or editing the project file to change the Visual Studio version.

  • Hi Carlos,

Being on a team I can't just update the solution.  I just want a way to remove the visual clutter.

    Thanks

  • Hi vbMark,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

    >> In VS 2017 I opened a 2015 solution.  In solution explorer every project displays (Visual Studio 2015) next to it.

Could you please share the screenshot of this windows in here or upload it to https://onedrive.live.com/ and share the link here? It can help us to know the detail information about your issue, thank you for your support.

Does this issue only happens for this VS 2015 solution or please try to open other existing VS 2015 solution in VS 2017 to check if this issue persists or not?

If it is occurring for all existing VS 2015 solutions, please re-run the VS 2017 installer as administrator, then try to repair it.

If only this specific solution has this issue, please close VS, unload then reload the solution, or clean the solution, delete the .suo or .vs of your current solution, then reopen this solution.

    Best regards,

    Sara
