Polar coordinates (antenna pattern) plot in vba without temporary XL sheet in between. RRS feed

  • Question

  • As you know, Excel have completely no support of polar plots. (Radar plot is different and unrelated to polar coordinates, where angle is an argument, but not an integer counter)

There is limited support in OWC ChartSpace ax component.

However, it is limited in that the origin is always zero and can not be negative as it is in classic polar plot:

    see the sample.

What I am doing now is plotting without visible R-axis. I want to add gray R-circles as additional plot curves.

But I don't know how to place Text labels "-25 dB, -20 dB, ... 0 dB, +5dB" on top of the plot to simulate the R-tick subscripts. Of course, the test labels should be exportable to png image with the hosting plot.

  • Mr. Jeffrey-Chen, do you read posts you moderate? Or are you qualified to moderate office programming forum?

The OWC ChartSpace AX component is related to office VBA programming and not limited to Excel. It is a general data-visualisation component (In particular I use hardware I/O as a data source). If you see an Excel reference in my post, the robot instinct in you is wrong - it is not about Excel itself.

So, please, move the topic back to VBA office programming where specialists can see it.

  • Hi Hale,

According to your description, you are using Office Web Components (OWC).

The Office Web Components technology is deprecated, this means that only security fixes are being made to all version of OWC and no future versions of OWC will be produced.

If we are using OWC, we should start to migrate to a new technology as soon as possible.

    More information, please refer to:

  • Dear Starain, however deprecated the Office Web Components technology is, the Microsoft DOES NOT have any replacement and did not inform me the moment VB/A programing became deprecated.

So please, let me find a solution for quick plotting accurate antenna and scattering patterns using hardware acquired Data residing in RAM.

  • Hi Hale_K,

The original forum you post is “Developing Apps for Office 2013” forum rather than “Office VBA Programming” forum.

    # Build apps for Office

Sorry for the confusion. According to your description, I moved this thread to “Visual Basic for Application” forum. Please feel free to let us know if you have any concerns or questions.

    Regards,

    Jeffrey
