Is HealthValut integrated with any EMR systems? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi everyone,

I realize this is a basic question that may have been answered before, but I was wondering if HeathVault has been integrated with any popular EMR systems and labs. The idea is to have the data pushed automatically from the EMR to HV, rather than having to be entered by hand or other means. If so, which EMR systems are currently supported (Epic, GE Centricity, OpenEMR, etc)?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Dimitris ... given how fragmented the EHR industry is, this is a complicated question to answer.

First the easy stuff --- in the US, we are connected to both national labs (Labcorp, Quest) and key pharmacies (Walgreens, CVS) ... so that information can flow directly to HV without any manual entry.

There are also many EMR vendors that have built in direct connectivity to HealthVault. Two examples are Greenway and Allscripts. A number of others have implemented using secure messaging via the "Direct" project ... one example being Medplus Care360 but there are a bunch of these.

Others can connect through third-party portals and other middleware. As a last resort, thank to Meaningful Use Stage 1, just about every EHR on the market can save a CCR or CCD file and give it to the patient on a flash drive or other electronic media. This can be directly uploaded to HealthVault and parsed to avoid hand-entry.

For worldwide EHRs not represented in the US market, we've recently connected up with EMIS in the UK and others on the way.

So the bottom line --- you can get structured data into HV from just about every EHR on the market ... but in some cases it is really cumbersome to get it done. This is one of our prime value propositions, so we spend a bunch of time (and resource) trying to make it better every day.

    Hope that helps!
