.NET Framework 3.5 SP 1 won't install on Vista SP 1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been having a great deal of trouble of installing the .NET Framework 3.5 SP 1 correctly on my Vista SP 1 machine.  My company has been developing a new piece of software the requires it, and the software runs correctly.  However, when I tried to install SQL Server 2008 Express last week, I realized that something was not right because I came across the dreaded message that .NET Framework 2.0 SP 2 was not installed.

    I've read through seemingly thousands of posts in which people have had problems, but none of the suggestions have worked thus far.  Typically, I've gone through iterations of installing/uninstalling the 3.5 Framework software only to watch my PC rollack the 2.0 and 3.0 changes after the reboot - (I ignored the Windows update message to reboot and waited for the install to complete before rebooting).

    Today I uninstalled tons of applications - VS 2009 Professional, .NET Framework, Compact Framework, SDKs, and other things - just to strip the machine down to the bare bones.  After rebooting the machine (post application removals), I tried to load Framework 3.5 SP 1 again, there was no success.  This time, it did not even try to load up the 2.0 and 3.0 fixes.

    Here is the output from the NetFx35_detect_issues.bat after the 3.5 SP 1 install:

    THE FOLLOWING SCRIPT will check to make sure that .NET Framework 3.5

    In the dd_dotnetnx35install.txt there are some other issues:

    [10/21/08,13:53:27] Windows Installer Patch Registration Fix for .NET Framework 3.5 (x86): g:\530aebe55a8626b2d8ff0bb0\wcu\dotNetFramework\tools\clwireg.exe - internal name = clwireg.exe

    This sequence shows up a couple of times:

    [10/21/08,13:54:20] Setup.exe: GetComponents()
    [10/21/08,13:54:20] Setup.exe: get_Components()

    [10/21/08,13:54:20] WapUI: {4F8791EE-486F-44B5-952B-F28F9FD58BD0}

    This one is repeated many times over:

    [10/21/08,13:54:22] Setup.exe: GetGlobalCustomProperty - Property: {8297A38B-6431-4F1D-9F6E-C3D371CEA383} - PropertyName: WebSetup - Value: 1

    [10/21/08,13:54:22] WapUI: ISetupManager::GetGlobalCustomProperty() failed to find global prop in CProgressPage::RunningComponent()
    [10/21/08,13:54:23] WapUI: {4F8791EE-486F-44B5-952B-F28F9FD58BD0}

    My guess is that these are parts of the .NET 2.0 and 3.0 SP 1/2 installs that are missing, but I could be wrong.

    Any thoughts on what I could try next to get this thing straightened out - short of wiping it clean and starting over?  I can post more logs and what not somewhere if it may be helpful.

    Thanks,

    Nick
