People Picker Inconsistant. Very confusing! RRS feed

  • Question

  • When using the people picker the display is inconsistant. Mostly places when you select people picker it shows no users and you must search for users such as in people and groups and calandar. But under a tasks list when we use people picker to choose someone to assign a task to for example it shows all the possible users immediatly which is what the client desires instead of a blank list forcing a search. Any ideas why this is? Is the people picker not the same module?

  • Take a look at the column itself.  You can configure the people picker to only use a specific group of users as options.  If it is configured this way, it might be the reason it is pre-populated.

  • Hello,

Are you sure you are using the same column type.  A people picker does not display a list of options.  A user must first specify a value to be validated or click on the Address book icon to find a user value.

It sounds like the columns that are displaying the availalbe values are Choice columns or Managed Metadata columns.

  • The address book is clicked next to the column. WHich to my knowledge brings up the people picker. WHen the address book is clicked on somewhere like calandar for example to choose someone it shows a blank list and you must search. WHen clicked from other places like assigned to in tasks for example it immediatly displays the list of users and then u can search. THe client wants the address book to always immediatly show the list of users like it happens sometimes in some places.
