Animated Banner RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I am not sure, but I think Expression Blend is what I should use to accomplish this...

What I am trying to do is create a simple animated banner to use on a website (Silverlight? Not really a fan of flash, but it will be acceptable...). In the past, I did this by using animated GIF's but, as you know, there is no ability to manipulate transition effects. I have four seperate images, each the same size, created in Design. They are located:

    www.nathanchesebro.net/banner/stb1.png

    www.nathanchesebro.net/banner/stb2.png

    www.nathanchesebro.net/banner/stb3.png

    www.nathanchesebro.net/banner/stb4.png

The timeline I want to use is as follows:

    stb1.png (1.5 seconds) [Fade into (.5 seconds) >] stb2.png (1.5 seconds) [Fade into (.5 seconds) >] stb3.png (1.5 seconds) [Fade into (.5 seconds) >] stb4.png [STOP]

I have never used Blend, and I hear a lot of great things about it. Can someone point me in the right direction as to how to accomplish this task step by step?

Also, if you know of any good step-by-step startup books on this program, I would be interested in knowing what you guys would reccomend...

    Thanks, Nate

  • The actual Silverlight site... silverlight.net has some video tutorials.

    Try here:  http://www.silverlight.net/getstarted/

    Channel 9 (Microsoft's site) http://channel9.msdn.com/

And here ... click the "Learn" button at the top of the page.

When I started with Expression when it first came out I took an online paid course from Total Training, http://www.totaltraining.com/home.asp.  They had great beginner tutorials.  But if you don't want to pay, you'll find plenty of learning tools on the sites I mentioned above.

Good Luck and you'll love Blend once you get going.
