Looking for System.Web.dll for .NET 3.5 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am at a complete loss here...I see in the documentation that .NET 3.5 is supposed to have a System.Web.dll...I have uninstalled my version of .NET 3.5 and reinstalled it and yet I still only have version 2.0 for the System.Web.dll. I want to use the HttpUtility class that is supposed to be a part of the System.Web, but the 2.0 version does not have it. What in the world am I missing? Is this 3.5 version just a figment of Microsoft's Imagination? Please help I don't have much hair left to pull out....

  •  You cannot call it .NET 3.5 dll for System.Web because everything AJAX was live long before .NET 3.0 was live early last year.  In Asp.net you only reference .NET 2.0 and add references.

  • Actually there is no System.Web .NET 3.5 dll because Asp.net still deploy to .NET 2.0 with VS2008 adding the new references for you or you have to add it manually if you are in VS2005.  Check the thread below for a very long conversation on the issue and check the IIS forum thread for the solution to the problem.

  • There is a new dll in .net 3.5 but its not called System.Web.  It called System.Web.Extensions.  This dll holds the ms ajax framework, ajaxscriptmanger, update panels, etc.
