Data not flowing into Production cube.

  • Hi Friends,

I have a cube, which has partitions, which use oracle query. I have a job-job1.This job uses a powershell script. Whenevr this job runs, the data should get loaded into cube. But this is not happening for few records.

The oracle query in productions gets data but in cube the data values shows null.

    What could be the reasons?

  • Are you using views over oracle tables? If yes, ensure views return missing data first.

If they're returned by views, then look for any additional filters you're using in data source view of the cube

  • Depends on definition of your "few rows", for same full combination of keys records will be merged into one within partition.

    1) Make sure your data source (and object within it) is pointing to right environment/server/database
    2) Validate if right data source is used in DSV
    3) Double check query definition on partition (it doesn't necessarily picks data from your object in DSV, can have it's own SQL elements)
Manual processing window in SSMS / VS normally gives you query which is executed against data source.

    4) Examine processing error logs (rows skipped/converted into unknowns)
    5) Take a look on custom aggregations
    6) Go through MDX script in your Cube (mostly Scope assignments)
    7) Check if you have Measure expressions (on Measures) or Custom Rollups on dimension attributes.
    8) See all your attributes for default_member / aggregability changes.
    9) Roles/permissions
    10) Formatting / Rounding (data types)
    11) Are you pointing to right server/db/cube?
    12) are you getting data from new version of cube (or it's a glitch and your session still holds previous subspace copy)

etc... etc.. etc.. generally there're so many reasons why you can have "missing" records, because OLAP cubes are quite complex objects with multiple levels of logic applied on data after retrieval from source.

  • Hello,

What is the PowerShell script good for? Have you processed the cube at all?

  • Hi Olaf,

The powershell script is for processing partitions(process full, process append...), and do process recalc on cube.So whenever the jobs run, this powershell scripts processes the partitions, and process recalc the cube.

  • Look at this post for possible reasons data is not appearing in your cube.

    Hope that helps,
