  • Question

  • Hello,

I want to use extension to deploy a SQL Server 2017 on Windows Server 2016 through a template but I keep getting the same error message:

"VM has reported a failure when processing extension 'SqlIaasExtension'. Error message: \"SQL Server IaaS Agent: Specified argument was out of the range of valid values.\r\nParameter name: is invalid starting device ID. Starting device ID must be a number"

Thanks a lot for your help.

  •  Remove the extension and rerun/deploy extension .

AzureRMVMSqlServerExtension but does not include the -Location parameter, which apparently is required and should indicate the region the vm is located in.

Eg: Set-AzureRmVMSqlServerExtension -ResourceGroupName "SQL" -VMName "SQL" -Name "SQLIaasExtension" -Version "1.2" -Location "EastUS"

The SQL Server IaaS Agent Extension (SQLIaaSAgent) runs on Azure virtual machines to automate administration tasks. This topic provides an overview of the services supported by the extension as well as instructions for installation, status, and removal.
