Using ASR for archiving virtual machines RRS feed

  • Question

  • I will be configuring Azure ASR for a customer from Hyper-V (Non VMM) to Azure and have a couple of questions.

    1. Assuming the agent is installed on the Hyper-V host, can we replicate machines that are powered off or in a saved state?

    2. The customer has around 4 virtual machines that powered off that they would like 'archived'. Is it feasible to replicate these to Azure ASR tenancy, disable replication and protection and power them on in Azure in the future if required?

  • Hi,

    1. Yes, you can replicate powered off machines

    2. yes,

    - Enable replication for all 4 virtual machines

-Failover your VMs to azure then click on complete migration.

once your VMs migrated to Azure you can shutdown VMs or even you can create automation runbook to start and shutdown the VMs
