SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Manager Memory Slider Problem RRS feed

  • Question

  • We just installed SQL 2000 ENT x86 on 2003 server R2 Ent and are experiencing the following issue. We cannot change the amount of memory assigned either fixed or dynamically with the slider.  If we attempt to change it, the memory defaults to min 4mb and max 16mb even though it shows all the available memory. We have tried the install on both x86 and x64 bases OS platforms. If we attempt to change the memory allocated and commit the changes, then sql doesn't start. The server is a Dell R900 with 64gb ram. Any info is greatly appreciated.

SQL 2000 is fully patched '2055'

  • Most probably just a bug in EM (my guess EM doesn't cope with 64GB mem). Use sp_configure and specify the values instead.

  • I was able to change the values with sp_configure but just wanted to make sure there wasn't any other issues. As an FYI we installed the SQL2005 tools also and it was able to adjust the memory just fine. Must be an EM issue like you said.

PS. I know we shouldn't be using 2000 and should have upgraded but politics hear have slowed our progress. Thanks again for such a quick response..
