Dynamic metadata, diffrent data for diffrent categories. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I hope my topic somewhat describes what i am asking.

Iam building a site where i will have diffrent categoires. Like Gadgets, Software, Websites and so on. And i want to add diffrent metadata to items added in each category. Say for example in the Software category i want to have an "OS" property and that is ofcourse irrelevant in the Websites category where i maybe want to have some other properties. I guess sites like amazon, ebay and other have this.

First and foremost, is this called something? It's kind of hard to search for it when you don't know the name of what i want to do Wink

And do anyone know any good articles about it. What i have planed is to have a XML field in the database on each item  that can have the diffrent attributes.

Then in the application itself i just use regular inheritance and have a baseclass whit diffrent subclassed that has diffrent attribues.

    Anyone have any tips?

  • Hey there, did you solve this?

I do not like the XML approach, this problem can be easily solved with a purely relational approach.
