Why in Device Manager the "disable device" option disappears? RRS feed

  • Question

  • In Win10 1903 Device Manager sometimes after disabling & enabling USB device, the "disable" choice disappears.

Any idea what this means? No other problems are visible, no yellow bangs etc.

The device is a child of usbccgp.

For other unrelated devices the "disable" choice remains visible.

  • Look at the details tab. Is one of the reported pnp caps not disable able? In box driver or third party?

  • No, just normal USB HID devices with inbox drivers. After unplug & replug, the disable option usually appears again.

As Doron uses to ask which is the bigger problem - it's this: I have a HID device (either composite or multi-collection, not sure yet what works better). More to this, sometimes its HID report descriptor changes. When this occurs, I cause the device to drop off and re-enumerate (again, not sure what is a better way). The vendor and product IDs remain the same.

It seemed to work well 3-4 months ago, but few updates later (not saying "because of") it works worse.
