Require login and password to access shared folders RRS feed

  • I walked into a disaster when I took a new position as network admin and have managed to apply some sort of order and security to the network but want to set up a 2008 server that will house documents, some of which are private and others which will allow collaboration.  I have a dc and ad set up so I can apply access and permissions based on ad but management wants it set up set up the "shared folders" so that users need to login with ad username and passwords to access the folders.  And then, they want to be able to track any changes made to documents, ie, word, excel, etc.  I know this is vague but if anyone has any thoughts, I would appreciate it.  I'm open to any suggestions that might involve a program that might enable to accomplish the above, whether MS or open source.

    I don't know if this is the right forum but forums for 2008 are limited.
