Blob storage cool vs hot tiers

    Question

  • Hi Team,

Azure platform release a new feature Blob storage new tiers recently,

we have an application that host in Azure and use azure blob storage to store our blob data.

to reduce the cost and we planed to use blob cool storage, but the cool storage read/write transaction is charged.

we would like to know :

    1. If we write the blob to hot tier storage first and then transfer the data to cool tier storage, the hot tier storage and cool tier storage are at same region, is it will be charged ?

    2. This feature is not available at US East/Australia region, when these two regions can have this feature ?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

    Thank you for posting here.

If you transfer your data from Hot to Cool, you will not be charged for Data Writes. You only get charged for Data Writes if you directly write data to your Blob Storage Account with Cool access tier.

Blob storage accounts are currently supported in a majority of Azure regions with more to follow. You can find the updated list of available regions on the Azure Services by Region page.

  • Hi , Team,

We had another questions, we are testing the hot/cool tier storage ,

and found that during our test when we write the same data to cool storage and hot storage, it will take 3 times to writing to cool storage than hot storage.

The documents said :  Performance and Scalability Same as general purpose storage accounts

is there difference between hot and cool storage ?

    Thanks in advance.
