  • Can I use Azure media services, but replace the inbuilt video encoder with my own implementation?

  • No not exactly.  We don't provide any interface or mechanism to plug in an custom encoder implementation. 

    With that said though, we do support dynamic packaging and deliver of standard ISO-14496:12 base media file format (also known as MP4), so if your encoder properly outputs closed GOP, CBR encoded content which is time aligned, we should be able to package it (as long as you are using supported codecs) for streaming via HLS and DASH.
