    I want to teach myself asp.net. I already know VB so that will be the language I use. Can anyone recommend a good asp.net book for beginners that is still pretty in-depth?

    if you are aware with programming concept and want to learn professional level asp.net than I would recommend

    Beginning ASP.NET 2.0 E-Commerce in C# 2005 - From Novice to Professional. publisher is Apress and the author is cristian darie. I have very practicle exmples, you will be able to develope complete full featured e-commerce website with payment processing integration, shopping card etc., if you will study from first to last page.
