OOB application keeps crashing RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear all,

My OOB application (designed using LightSwitch) keeps crashing randomly a few times a day.  It also does not happen on all machines and only started recently (mid February).

Below are  some error reports I extracted.  Any help or guide as to where to start debugging will be helpful

    Many thanks.

  • Hi Jan,

Thanks so much for replying my email earlier.  I went through a very busy work/life schedule recently and it is now getting back to some resemblance of normality.  Hence this long for me to reply...

I found out what was wrong in the end, after getting a bill from Microsoft.  I use Azure for my hosting and usually the bill is not much.  This time I was charged a bit for traffic out from my application and this prompted me to look around for excessive data usage.

Not really knowing how to check the time execution times of the queries, I got lucky when I saw a datagrid were taking longer than normal to load. It turns out that I made a query parameter optional, and it was returning the entire table (without pagination) each time the datagrid was displayed.

    Learnt some lessons here...

Once again, many thanks for trying to help!  I was really at a lost...

    Best regards,

    CT

  • This problem occur only on my user's computers.  Mine (the development machine) seems to be fine.

Looking at the task manager, the "sllauncher.exe" process would maxed-out the CPU.  Is there a way anyone can suggest for me to start debugging this problem?  There is no definite fixed time/scenario that I know that triggers this behaviour.  The application works fine after shutting down and restarting it.

Many thanks in advanced.  This matter is starting to get very annoying when it happens a few times a day.

    Best regards,

    CT

  • Hey CT,

this seems like really annoying indeed!  No immediate bells start ringing, so besides the usual diagnostics/debugging tools, found here, I can offer little help other than:

    * what's different between your pc and theirs?  Ask if you can install VS on one of the computers, and really try and open your LS project & build it & debug it as a test.

    * does it really crash randomly?  In my experience, sometimes a specific action/button/command is causing problems with specific data (different from your test data).  Stupid things often, like a hidden space at the end of some text value, weird encoding settings on the DB, ...

    * why did it start mid February?  Perhaps a software/OS update they did?

Best of luck in your quest!

    Keep rocking LS!
