  • 4 GB RAM is not recommended but you can use it. I am using it SharePoint 2013 VM with 4 Gb RAM on my laptop. But I am using Windows Server 2012.

The performance will be slow, I have stopped Search Host Controller Service in window service, and also have set 2 GB RAM for SQL Server.

  • No you cannot. Minimum for development box you should be having 8GB RAM. Have a look at the below link for further specs

  • Seconded. I just set up a Hyper-V Windows Server 2012 R2 with single-server SharePoint Foundation 2013 SP1 on 4GB RAM. If it's a personal POC/DEV box it'll do.

  • Hi,

It would be a terrible experience, and your environment would crash or you would think it had. I do demos all the time for user groups and conferences, I wouldn't dream of starting a SharePoint VM with less than 16GB, I have currently have 32GB in my laptop and use 24GB for the demos.

But, this isn't new with SharePoint 2013, though a few developers did I would never have been doing development on a 4GB SharePoint 2007 environment, I always use 8GB or more

    Cheers,
