sender address in outgoing / sent mails with MAPI-Property PR_RECEIVED_BY_NAME / same address RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Community

we have an application which allows to drag and drop (works with a vsto that has been programmed by the softwarevendor) emails into the application. Based on the MAPI-Property PR_RECEIVED_BY_NAME_W" (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office/client-developer/outlook/mapi/pidtagreceivedbyname-canonical-property) the email will be marked either as sent or received inside the application.

We do now have the following problem that the MAPI property shows the sender email address in the true recepient

    Outlook 2010 online mode - Exchange 2016
receivedbyname for incomming mails is filled with the mailaddress of sender --> will be marked as incoming mail inside the application
receivedbyname for incomming mails is empty --> will be marked as outgoing mail inside the application

    Outlook 2016 online mode - Exchange 2017
receivedbyname for incomming mails is filled with the mailaddress of sender --> will be marked as incoming mail inside the application
receivedbyname for incomming mails is filled with the mailaddress of sender --> will be marked as incoming mail inside the application which is wrong

    Outlook 2016 cached mode - Exchange 2017
not supported in VDI and terminalserver enviroments - which is not an option for us
receivedbyname for incomming mails is filled with the mailaddress of sender --> will be marked as incoming mail inside the application
receivedbyname for incomming mails is empty --> will be marked as outgoing mail inside the application

Unfortunately i don't have a clue what will be changed inside the MAPI-Property when changing to cached mode to solve this problem

  • I am not see that problem. Can you actually see that property on the messages in the Sent Items folder?

Are other PR_RECEIVED_BY_xyz properties (such as PR_RECEIVED_BY_ENTRID) also set?
