How does one make a favicon.ico in Expression Design? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Greetings All,

I have been asked to make a favicon, ico for our web site.  I have the graphic ready to go and saved as a .design file and exported as a .gif file.  But Expresion Design doesn't seem to export to the .ico extention.  Will someone please tell me how to get my Expression Design graphic to a favicon.ico?

  • I have no idea why the export to .ico has been removed from Design. We can still import .ico files but not export them. So, unfortunately, you'll need a third party utility, such as this one: http://www.coolutils.com/Online-Image-Converter.php

  • Hello Annie,

Thank you for your rapid response to my post.  I appreciate it.

I saw that Expression Design can import .ico files so I kept on looking for ways to export .ico files.  One might think that a program this powerful would have this capability.  Oh well.

Your third party fix worked. And I'm grateful for the lead.

  • It used to be (and I don't know if it still is) that any image matching .ico parameters might be renamed as favicon.ico (and don't know if the workaround still works :) )

  • ps - it was (and still is?) one way to get an animated gif to work as a favicon.ico

  • I tried just renaming the file from the .gif as I had exported it to favicon.ico.  It didn't take.  It appears as if some sort of identifier is missing in the file by just renaming it.

    Thanks for the thought.
