Integrating WDK with VS 11 UItimate Beta -- Build Session #275 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am trying to develop a metro app for a Mobile Broadband device and as I understood from documents I need to create a device metadata package first. Also to be able to create that package I need to install whole WDK.

I setup VS11 Ultimate beta first and then installed WDK for consumer preview but they are not seemed to be integrated. There is no "driver" menu in visual studio to launch "Authoring Tool" which is used to create Device Metadata Package.

I downloaded VS and WDK from the links below.

    Visual Studio

I spent almost two days to access my Mobile Broadband device through WinRT APIs but could not access it yet. I read a bunch of documents and I think the missing part is "Device Metadata Package" where there must be a definition like "The app with the identity mycompany.mobilebroadbandapp can access the special features of this device."

So my problem is not being able to create that Metadata package, how can I resolve the integration problem of WDK and VS2011, or is there a alternative way of creating Device Metadata Package.

  • Hello,

You are correct in that you need to author the metadata.  I would try installing the SDK and then re-installing the WDK and see if that works.  Also what Version of Windows are you installing on?

  • Hopefully the re-install with SDK and then WDK works.  Otherwise I would try uninstalling WDK, SDK and Visual Studio and try a reinstall.  If it gets really bad you might need to clean install Windows and then re-install.  However hopefully this is not needed.
