How do I enable "start without debugging" in VB, C#, and C++? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have Visual Basic 2010, Visual C# 2010, and Visual C++ installed.

    My problem is, every time I "create new application", on each one, the "Start Without Debugging" option isn't available in the Debugging menu.

    I've found solutions for VB 2008 Express, but there is no way to "add' it to the menu, as the command isn't there when I attempt to do so, as if it doesn't exist.

    F5 is simply "start debugging".

    I'm trying to do the tutorial and make my first "hello, world" application... Help please?

  • You can add Start Without Debugging command to debug menu with this steps:

    -Go to Tool, select Customize, From customize, select commands Tab, under categories, select Debug. On the right side, in commands list for debug, scroll down the list and drag the Start Without Debugging to the debug menu on the main menu of VS IDE.

    Tool->Customize->Commands Tab->Categories->Debug
     Under commands list for debug then drag

    This is very close - in dev 10 I believe these are the steps:

    Under the commands Tab, select Toolbar, then select the debug toolbar.
    On the right side, you should be able to select click Add Command, the Add command dialog should appear.
    Select Debug on the left side, and start without debugging in the right side.

  • Hey, thanks for the CTRL+F5. It works.

    The only problem is that when I go to "add commands" in the debug menu, then I go to the "debug" category, I can not find the "Start Without Debugging" command anywhere.

    Again, I am using Visual Basic 2010 Express.

    Thanks.

    I dont have VS2010,so that steps is for vs2008.

    You may try VS2010 prerelease forum, may be someone can help to locate it http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vsprereleaseannouncements/threads

    No, this is not correct. Although you should get the option of a start without debugging button after selecting Tools, Customize, Commands (tab), add command, debug (from the list), on the right side, there is no button for start without debugging. The closest possible match is Start / Continue, then Step By ( not start without debugging ).  I assume it is nowhere to be found because it is still a beta version... That annoys me because in the last beta I downloaded the start without debugging would exit from a normal non win32 console application - but for the win32 console application it would stay nicely at command prompt with... Press any key to continue. Can anyone find it in visual studio 2010 c++ beta edition?

  • This is the simple answer for those using the Express products.

    And it's easier than manually adjusting the available menu options.
