Loading Tiles from WMS Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi.  I am trying to load layers onto an AJAX Microsoft Map from a WMS Server.

I am confused on how to load these images to a tile layer.  My Microsoft Map is 950px X 550px.  I am able to get the bounding box for my map and send it to the WMS server which returns an image that is 950X550.

Is there a way to request an array of bounding boxes from the map control that are all 256X256 so that I can send these to the WMS server?

I have not been able to find any clear examples on how to do this... though it seems it would be a fairly recurring need.

    Thank you!

  • Take a look at this blog post on how to do this: http://alastaira.wordpress.com/2011/01/07/accessing-a-wms-tile-server-from-bing-maps-v7/

  • Thanks Richard.  Do you happen to know if there are any public services out there that does this?   For instance, pass the WMS service address and the bounding box info and it sends back the tiles (like the service on Alastair's site?

Seems silly that everyone who wants to do this needs to create a new service.

  • I'm not aware of anyone who provides a free service like this.

  • I am experiencing a large amount of vertical stretching on the lowest zoom levels when using this and a few other methods I've run across. It's not until I get to about zoom level 3 that it seems to become more in line with what I'm expecting. Has anyone else experienced this?
