  • .NET Framework 3.0SP1 installation is failing on my Vista Home Premium machine with the following error message:

  • Use this tool to uninstall ALL .NET versions from your machine. Then download and install this version of .NET again. Let us know the results. Note that 3.5 SP1 will also install 3.0 SP1 and 2.0 SP2.

  • Did the steps you suggested. The 3.5SP1 installation end prematurely in Error and gives the same error message

  • Go to your .NET folder. It might be something like C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework. Then right click your v3.0 folder, and click Properties. In the Security tab, select your User name, and make sure you have Full Control. If there is no Security tab, then you'll need to disable Simple File sharing from Folder Options. In My Computer, go Tools > Folder Options... > View Tab, and uncheck the "Use simple file sharing (recommended)" item. Then you can check the security and make sure your account has full permissions to install to that folder.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi Sxg,

Error code "-2146762496" means "No signature was present in the subject". It could be caused by the corrupted installer. Please try using some download manager software to help downloading.

If the issue still exists, could you please try to help me to use collect tool to collect the log files of .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 from your "%temp%" folder?
    http://blogs.msdn.com/heaths/archive/2008/05/09/visual-studio-and-net-log-collection-utility.aspx

Then compress them into a zip file and post a link back. You can upload your log files to SkyDrive and post the link back here.

    Steps:
    - Try to clean your "%temp%" folder
    - Install .NET Framework 3.5 SP1
    - Collect the logs from "%temp%" folder

    Thanks

  • Hi Sxg,

Thanks for posting your log files.  The dd_dotnetfx35install.txt file you sent show that the .NET Framework 3.0 SP OS hotfix package is failing with the following error:

[05/02/09,17:18:03] Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0SP1 (CBS): C:\Windows\system32\WUSA.exe exited with return value 2148204800
    [05/02/09,17:18:03] InstallReturnValue: GFN_MID NET Framework 3.0SP1 (CBS), 0x800b0100

    [05/02/09,17:18:03] Setup.exe: AddGlobalCustomProperty
    [05/02/09,17:18:03] Setup.exe: AddGlobalCustomProperty
[05/02/09,17:18:03] Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0SP1 (CBS): ***ERRORLOG EVENT*** : Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0SP1 (CBS). MSI returned error code -2146762496

So it looks like there is something wrong with the OS hotfix install infrastructure on your system.
