if an update to an app is available in windows store, will it be notified to user automatically? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Our app is going to be published in Windows Store. Suppose if an updated package is submitted to Windows Store Dev center and it passes certification. How can end user be notified that there is an update to the app.

if an update is available for that app in the Windows Store, Will it be notified to end user(Toast notification) automatically?

Answers

  • you have to build something yourself for this. So you will have to send the notification to your app that then gives the toast message.

you can use Push Notifications for this. Then you have to check the store (no official api for that) if the update is available.

Or in a background task check the current version and check what in the store (again no api and you will have to figure an way to do) and if store version is newer send the toast message from the background task

  • no. there will only a number show on the store tile. That tells the number of updates.

  • Hi Dave,

    Thanks for the reply.

If end user has to be notified (Toast Notification) automatically when there is an update in Windows Store, what to do? What is the process involved?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi SaiKrupakar,

You could have built the mechanism in the first version itself as Mr. DaveSmits Suggested.

Better you can implement in 'this' release, so that people who downloads your 'this' release will be notified on further updates of your app.
